How condition is described

Look at the corners, handles, the edge paint along leather straps and the lining, where use shows first. Vachetta leather on older Louis Vuitton bags darkens to a honey patina with age; this is normal.

What is coated canvas?

Coated canvas is a cotton canvas treated with a layer of PVC or similar coating that makes it water-resistant, scratch-resistant and lighter than leather. Louis Vuitton's Monogram and Damier bags and many Gucci GG Supreme bags use it, usually with leather trim. It wears very well over decades, although corners and handle bases can crack after heavy use.

What does 'good condition' mean for a pre-owned bag?

Good condition means the bag has been used and shows some signs of wear, such as rubbed corners, light scratches on hardware, softening of the leather or marks on the lining. It is fully usable. Very good and excellent mean progressively less wear. The photos on each product page show the details, so look at corners, handles and the interior.

Why has the leather on my vintage Louis Vuitton bag turned brown?

Many Louis Vuitton bags use vachetta, an untreated natural cowhide on the handles and trim. It starts pale and gradually darkens to a honey or caramel colour through exposure to light and handling. This patina is expected and many owners prefer it. Water spots and dark stains are a different matter and are usually mentioned in the condition notes.

How do I check the size of a bag before buying?

Most bags list height, width and depth in centimetres, and many carry a size group from mini to maxi. The simplest check is to measure a bag you already own and compare. Width is measured across the base, height from base to top edge without handles, and depth from front to back.
