- Size: scarves list width and height. A 90 x 90 cm square is the classic Hermès carré; smaller squares and long stoles are also stocked.
- Era: after 2000 or 1900-2000. Vintage Hermès scarves often name the designer and design, such as "Les Poulains".
- Colour: brown, black and gold are the most common.
How condition is described
Grades run from new or as new, through excellent and very good, to good (some signs of wear). On scarves, look for pulled threads, small marks and fading along folds. On wallets, check corners, edges and the inside card slots. On sunglasses, check lenses for scratches and that the hinges close firmly.
Before you buy
For eyewear, note the lens category and that prescription lenses are not included. For scarves, check the hem: Hermès carrés have a hand-rolled edge, rolled towards the printed side. Shipping is free and each product page shows its ship-by date.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Hermès carré?
A carré is Hermès's signature square silk scarf, most often 90 x 90 cm in silk twill. Each design is printed with many separate colour screens and finished with a hand-rolled hem. Vintage designs are usually signed by the artist in the print and have a name printed in the design. Smaller 70 cm and 45 cm squares and plissé versions also exist.
How do I care for a silk scarf?
Dry cleaning is the safest option for printed silk twill. If you hand wash, use cool water and a gentle detergent for silk, do not wring or rub, and dry flat away from sunlight. Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse side, avoiding the rolled hem. Store scarves flat or loosely rolled to prevent sharp creases.
What does the category number on sunglasses mean?
The lens category, from 0 to 4, describes how much light the lenses block. Category 2 suits everyday use in moderate sun, and category 3 is the most common for bright summer conditions. Category 4 is for extreme glare such as high mountains and is not suitable for driving. The category is usually printed on the inside of a temple.
Can I return an accessory?
Yes. Accessories can be returned within 14 days of delivery under the EU right of withdrawal, provided they come back in the condition they arrived in. See our returns policy page for the steps. Shipping is free on every order and payment is taken securely by card at checkout.
